Arnold Kolah Brown

Arnold Kolah “AK” Brown, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Arnold was born in Charleston, SC, on April 12th, 1938 to the late Thelma Lee Brown and Arthur Kolah Brown. He grew up in Lake City, SC, and was baptized in the Lake City Baptist Church. After graduating from Lake City High School in 1956 he attended the University of South Carolina and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in philosophy. He became an Eagle Scout and taught High School math in Columbia, SC. He was active in the Civil Rights Movement, regularly attending marches, protests, and meetings.
Soon thereafter he developed a passion for computing and became an accomplished COBOL programmer, working and contracting for numerous companies like Coca-Cola, Alltel, and Magnum Communications.
Arnold was married to Gladys Lilian Hamilton from 1967 to 1990 in Atlanta, and is survived by his two sons, Benjamin and Andrew.
Arnold married Nancy S. Goodman in 2017 and lived together in Savannah until his passing.
He was a warm, loving husband, friend, and father gifted with a quick dry wit, intelligence, and compassion for his fellow man. He valued logic and science and was deeply curious and inquisitive. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was a voracious reader, avid traveler and swimmer, and had a lifelong love for classical music. He was patient and kind.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 9 years, Nancy Goodman, his sisters Betty Lee DeWitt, of Savannah, GA, Bernice Melanie Bascom (Bill), of Kirkwood, MO, and his brother and good friend Dr. James Arthur Brown (Patsy) passed in 2021. Also his two sons, Benjamin Hamilton Brown (Tianyue Yang) of Suwanee, GA, and Andrew Connell Brown, of Atlanta, Georgia. He has two grandsons and a granddaughter, Lucas Yang Brown of Suwanee, GA, Landon Lee Brown of Suwanee, Ga, and Laura Yang Brown of Suwanee, GA.
A Funeral service will be held at Fox and Weeks (4605 Hwy 80 East, Savannah GA 31410) on Thursday, March 5th, 2026 at 2:00 pm.The family will have a time of visitation from 12:45pm until 1:45pm on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Highway 378 By-Pass, Scranton SC, with a graveside service to follow at 2:00pm at Lake City Cemetery, North Church Street. Lake City SC.
